in 1996 paul birken released the classic and now rare as hens teeth surfin superior double 12inch on woody mcbrides communique label. this was to be a revered and respected record that influenced many and is still talked about and played today. now, some 19 years later he follows it up with part 2. nobody works as hard at getting human sounding chattering from their machines as birken and here he treats us to 8 massive cuts of grinding techno that are as humorous as they are danceable.

as the popularity of footwork has continued to soar, the range of sounds within the genre has expanded. from the angular, minimal beats of rp boo to the widely admired sound of sadly departed dj rashad, the genre has lovingly seeped into hearts and feet worldwide whilst continuing to innovate. until now most of the focus has been on the male dj/producers, but that is about to change. gary based producer jlin, who some of you might remember for her track *erotic heat* (bangs and works vol.2 – planet mu 2011), or from her moment in the mainstream light providing music for fashion designer rick owens f/w 14 paris runway show, is stepping further into the light with a stunning eleven track debut album *dark energy* showcasing her unique and bold new sound.

argentina has a rich history when it comes to dance music and gonzalo solimano is one of the countrys finest electronic flag-bearers. with his unlock recordings imprint he has created a heavy back-catalogue that the likes of barem, guti, luca m and daniel sanchez have all contributed to. after a short break solimano is back with his *factor h* ep and the original mix is a tropical, cow bell laden treat, one that sums up the nation’s sound nicely. on remix duty is both fase and fellow argentinian maestro guti. the producers last full-length was the jazz-inspired *rompecorazones* and now a remix lp is set to follow but here we focus on his amazing edit of *factor h*. guti has maintained the percussive elements of the original but added a significant amount of groove and focused on adding in thick kick drums and more drive. it is one you can imagine on the terraces or at 4am in a darkened room and this is why guti is such a don. pressing on green marbled vinyl)

the supremes, the most commercially successful girl group in pop history, were one of the jewels in motown records artist stable. given wonderful material by motown s amazing songwriters, the group scored numerous number one pop hits, as did singer diana ross when she left the group and went solo, and motowns bright, modern, and uptown image as a label had a lot to do with the way these ladies gracefully and elegantly presented themselves and took over a song. two dozen of those number one hits, both as the supremes and as ross solo, are collected here, including the timeless classics *come see about me*, *you cant hurry love*, *you keep me hangin on* and *stop! in the name of love*. the album also features a bonus remix of *you keep me hangin on*.

roberto rodriguez is a helsinki-based dj, producer, radio host and music director. having started making music at the age of 12 in 1987 and starting to dj a few years later, roberto can be called a true veteran. he has released over 50 original releases and 60 remixes including - now-classics like *ride with me*, *besomebody* and *oxymoron*. his vast catalog includes releases on labels such as compost, freerange, delusions of grandeur, room with a view, fina and eskimo. just to name a few.

love song 28, the song that established its writer jullian gomes. this incredibly talented young man hailing from pretoria tshwane in south africa is now one of the most revered producer/djs in the entire country.

despite refusing to stick to a single genre, deft is one of those immediately recognisable producers, which is nice because it means we dont have to waste any time comparing him to anyone else. 2013 saw the croydon man skilfully hopping from headphone to dance styles, often within a track, his signature blend of cinematic soundscapes and crisp, intricate percussion covering hip-hop, house, and ambient. whats more, his noteworthy contributions to the burgeoning uk footwork scene means the young producer can now count mark pritchard, dj shadow and rockwell among his biggest fans, and boy does this boy have fans, check this bandcamp review of his project mooncircle ep voight kampff: anything this magician puts out has a pretty good chance of getting you pregnant right in the good old music hole. says it all really
